The goal of the project is to enhance usability of Open Data and to enhance its accessibility for non-expert users. Besides technological advances improving the Open Data infrastructure with respect to deep search and re-usable visualization components, we will integrate Open Data support into the online discussion and Web Intelligence platforms, thus bringing Open Data into the context where end users can directly utilize it, and perform pilot experiments in Stuwerviertel, part of Vienna’s Second District.
The project runs for two and a half years, November 1, 2016 to April 30, 2019 with the research and development activities carried by the following partner organizations: Department of Information Systems and Operations of the Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU) as the project lead and research partner, Community-based innovation Systems GmbH (cbased) as a technology provider of the online discussion platform discuto.io, webLyzard technology gmbh addressing the visualization and Web Intelligence aspects, and the Urban Renewal Office of the Vienna’s Second District (GB*2/20), represented by DI Andrea Mann, responsible for community building and pilot deployment in its Vienna’s Stuwerviertel office.
The project aims at advancing the state-of-the-art of the Open Data infrastructure in several directions: it will prototype an Open Data enabled Urban Participation Platform, combining the online discussion functionality of discuto.io with webLyzard’s Web Intelligence capabilities, further extended to leverage deep search and crowsourcing of open datasets, their metadata and visualizations, as well as data usage examples. The project will also include a study of eParticipation incentivisation, based on WU’s need management methodology BEWEXTRA.
